Poorly DD, cough with vomiting, has a weird rash today, ideas?

DD has had a cough for weeks, Dr said it was nasal, but not likely an allergy, which I had asked about. Not a chest infection.

Since then she has been sick every day for a week, mostly due to coughing, but on the odd time not. Mainly evenings, usually only once, sometimes more.

Drs again today, told it was most likely a virus of some kind, ride it out, could possibly be some kind of allergy/hay fever.

DD has not gone to the loo, constipated I think, as she said it was sore before she poo'd, there was a little blood in her stools, not a lot, but I was not surprised, presume its because of the constipation?

So, generally, not feeling very good, but in a good mood considering. Mostly ok, bit crabby.

I noticed this afternoon a vague sheer rash across her entire back, which has got a little worse, and now across her front torso and neck, a little on her top legs too. Its a fine, mostly even rash, raised like goodbumps but red, tiny (looks a bit like pale difused paint spray), but slightly worse around base of back, and top of shoulders/neck.

Does not appear to be causing discomfort, she has no fever, and has not been sick today.

Any ideas? Could it be some kind of allergy? Anyone else had this? is it all related? Could it just be that she is run down?

I mean she has not gone to the loo for several days before today, she has now been, hence the blood.

My DD2 20 mths had this rash or very similar.GP said it was viral. Its now almost invisible, but seems to have gone like Eczema??? Feels like sandpaper.

I have just been applying Oilatum Ointment, and it is slowly improving.

She seemed slightly unwell before this, with interrupted nights and a few "loose" dirty nappies, went off her food, but a couple of doses of Calpol and she "recovered".

With regard to the Constipation, just step up her water intake, and fruit, usually does the trick with my LO. If its still "sore" you might need lactulose to soften the stool,if water and fruit don't help.HTH

Sawyer - oh that sounds possible. If Dr is saying a virus already? I shall panic less now!

And I will get some oilatum. She has had a lot more baths/showers than normal due to vomting everywhere each day! Did not think, maybe too much washing has not helped.

Sawyer - problem is she has gone right off food, and doesnt want water/juice. Been offering lots. But she did eat two grapes and a little water today. So hopefully it will help.

Thanks for your advice!

My DD (2.3) has been going through the same thing and I have been puzzled. Am putting it down to a virus for now.

StrawberryPavlovatheCat · 26/06/2008 21:10

milf love the name btw!!! DD is 2, well in couple days!

Odd isnt it? I am not like really panicked as she has no fever. Just very strange, and lots of little things together...hope your DD is ok?

Similar reply to Sawyer - sounds like a viral rash which my DS1 gets after a nasty bug. It clears after a few days. I don't actually know what a viral rash is, thats just what the doc has said. It doesnt appear to be a problem. Altho DS specialises in skin complaints after illness...he more recently gets a nastier rash thing that doc has said is folliclular dermatitis. DS is an ecxema sufferer and it seems to be related to this. The only real difference between the viral thing adn the dermatitis thing is that the latter itches and DS shreds himself scratching, so Oilatum helps. Worth checking out tho if you are concerned.

StrawberryPavlovatheCat · 26/06/2008 21:18

oh good. Well, not god that its likely a virus, good that I might have a cause that is manageable.

She has had a couple of viral spots in the past with a virus, small whitehead type spots on her face, usually near her eye. Perhaps this or a rash is something she is prone to when she gets a virus then....

I shall not go steaming back to the Dr all irate tomorrow as I had planned ...I might give it until monday, unless its awful tomorrow.

OH NO NO BAR! I need a drink:

DD has just vomited all over me, herself, the bed, sheets, gone through the mattress, pillow, down back of bed, on floor.

Then, just after clearing it all up, we have had a shower/bath, clean and fresh, sick all over the floor narrowly missing the clean bed, down herself, me. just kept going, and going.

Poor little baby girl . She is now watching pocoyo, her eyes are sunk and grey underneath, face lacking in colour, but lots better I think.

{sad].

I am out of wine

Poor you, Poor her. Hope she's better soon. But trust your instincts. It all sounds par for the course. But you know your DD.

My DD1 was very poorly in January with what seemed like a Tummy Bug,Because she was so rough, vomiting and not wanting to eat,and very high Temp,I took her to the docs after 48 hours.

The Nurse practictioner saw us, and checked her out,but despite her history of Bronchilitis and chesty coughs, she didnt listen to her chest, but checked her out.(I think I was sleep deprived so wasnt aware at the timethat she hadnt listened to her chest)

She seemed to think it was a Urine Infection,so wanted a specimen. She started Antibiotics.

Later that day I managed to get a specimen, and they sent it off.

The next day she seemed worse, her eyes were all sunken, she wasnt eating or drinking much and she was crying so pitifully.I took her back to see the GP.

This time she listened to her chest and was muttering "Insufficient Air Entry",and wrote a letter to the Paediatrician at the hospital. She told me to take her over there now and have her X Rayed.

I took her, they X Rayed her and she had Pneumonia! I am a nurse and I felt dreadful that I hadn't realised it was serious.(although I did "trust" my instincts that she wasnt recovering like she should have been.)

I hope I'm not scaring you, thats not my intention.Just to prove as a Mum you know your child best,if you feel she isnt getting better than it doesn't matter how much you "pester" the docs. Its your right and your "duty" to do that.
