I am in my late twenties, and ostensibly completely healthy. However, over the last year I've been struggling with worsening fatigue which doesn't seem to be caused by anything obvious. I have a normal 9-6 job, sleep for at least 8 hours a night, eat healthy and nutritious home-cooked meals, with plenty of protein, whole grains, and fruit/veg, and try as far as possible to be active (at the moment I can manage walking each day and 2-3 yoga/Pilates workouts a week) so I'm trying as far as possible to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
My main symptoms are feeling consistently exhausted, even after ten hours of sleep, brain fog and finding concentration difficult, feeling like my legs are heavy to move around, and getting out of breath easily. I don't actually feel as though I want to fall asleep during the day, it's more a lack of energy.
My GP has taken me seriously, and ran a number of standard blood tests towards the end of last year. All these came back completely fine - my ferritin is above 70, b12 and vitamin d are high in range, thyroid completely normal, and no signs of inflammation. I went back recently as I've been feeling this level of fatigue almost all of the time, which is worse than when I originally visited last year. My GP ran additional tests, ruling out coeliac, adrrenal issues, hormones all normal, no CMV or EBV antibodies. The only abnormality was a reactive Lyme screening, but a PCR then came back negative.
My GP has now suggested a CFS diagnosis. Whilst I understand this conclusion, it doesn't feel fully right because I don't have any pain or joint/muscle aches, and I don't see any real correlation between increasing exercise and post-exertion fatigue - if anything, I'm doing much less exercise now than six months ago because running for even two minutes gets me so out of breath, and yet I feel more consistently fatigued.
I feel really lost about what to do next. I truly don't want to be unwell, or have a diagnosis for the sake of it. I just want to get back to the healthy, energetic, focused person I was a couple of years ago. Any thoughts on what this could be or anything else I should investigate would be really appreciated.
