Does this sound like glandular fever

Started 4 weeks ago- fever and sore throat with white patches. Went to the pharmacy prescribed 5 days antibiotics.

symptoms went away for a few days. Then came back really sore throat. Spoke to gp said it sounded like I was under treated for a strep infection. Prescribed 7 days of antibiotics.

took them and symptom free for nearly a week. Then sore throat come back. No white patches just really swollen. Glands in neck up. Psoriasis has flared all over my body.

went back to gp (this was week 3) she said just looked viral but sent me for bloods for glandular fever. currently waiting for results. Also testing liver function.

thus was a few days ago - sore throat still persists with no patches and now fevers have started intermittently coming and going. Body aches too.

I am also beyond exhausted but I have two small kids do that could explain.

has anyone ever had glandular fever and experienced it similar to this?

I had it in my late teens. Its viral, so antibiotics won't be any use at all! I had the most painful throat I've ever had. It was like swallowing razors! That is my lasting memory from it. I know some get chronic fatigue and long term issues but I didn't. I also don't recall severe fatigue at all. I was diagnosed just before 2 weeks of school holidays (abroad) and although I did mainly stay in at home I wasn't sleeping much more than normal.

DD has had all that & thought she started with tonsillitis & then thought maybe it was glandular fever.
She was so poorly & I was getting really worried.
Her blood test result was severe Strep A & she had her 3rd lot of antibiotics as a big injection last Friday.
It's worked as all white patches gone & she's now back at work.
Unfortunately her boyfriend also caught it and was even more iller than her but he's on the mend now.

I had it in my early fifties. Headache first two weeks, swallowing was like eating glass, tests showed I had GF. Hospital for six days then another few weeks in bed at home.

I’m in my 50s and I’ve just had glandular fever. I don’t know how old you are but apparently when you’re older you tend to get less of the sore throat but more exhaustion. I did have a sore throat and a headache as a previous poster said, and I had been unwell for an over two weeks before I found out it was glandular fever. In total it has lasted about 10 weeks. I’m in week 10 now and would say following exertion I still get a post viral wiped out tired feeling. It is getting less though and I have done a lot of activity in the last few days but really felt it today. Good luck.

Glandular fever test came back negative
not sure what to think now.

spoke to gp and they said basically it's within normal range to feel exhausted and have intermittent fevers when recoving for infections and to check in next week.

I had a full blood count liver function and thyroid function all came back good

Had it twice, early 20s and then early 30s. It started off both times as what I thought was tonsillitis but 3 courses of antibiotics later and still having swollen glands and barely able to swallow, the GP did some bloods. The second time was even worse as I had a bad reaction to the antibiotics I was given... I think it took around 6 months to fully pick up from. And having 3 kids under 5 didn't help.

You could have post viral fatigue... quite common when you've had a nasty infection. Pro-biotics, multi vitamins and a good diet should help, along with plenty of rest when you can.

I definitely had it as a teenager despite being sent to the hospital for blood tests and being told I already had the antibodies for GF so apparently I didn't have an active infection. I felt dreadful with recurrent sore throats, had the lumpy neck for months and when given penicillin came out in the classic rash, which was torturously itchy.

What wasn't really understood then is that GF can reactivate in cycles and perhaps I had a particularly bad reactivation at that point. I should have rested properly but powered through my A levels and it led to years of post viral syndrome and chronic fatigue.

I guess maybe post viral fatigue as my only symptoms ongoing exhaustion a sore throat and a low-grade fever each evening.
