Hi, My ds id six months and im still breast feeding him. have been really lucky no real issues, no mastitis etc. This evening i have found a small, hard, pea size lump in my right breast just under my armpit. its not really painful just a bit tender if you push hard on it.

Just got dh to check and its definatly there. Is this normal? do i need to make a gp app or will they say its just milk duct blocked?

Didnt know whether to post this here or breast and bottle so did both.

Thanks for reading and advice/reassurance welcome.

If you are still br feeding, it is likely to be a blocked milk duct, however, you still need to have a GP look at it. There is no point at all in leaving it, just in case it is not a blocked duct.

I don't mean to panic you at all, as it really is more than likely a blocked duct, only, its a little high up, though they can be that far up i the br tissue, it just might not be, so deffo get you GP to have a little feel of it.

Godd luck

i had an abcess in my breast 15 months into breastfeeding which was cleared with a course of antibiotics. I believe that these sorts of things are common when you are a nusing mother. sooner you go to your gp the better just ti get it checked out. Is most probably related to bf but all lumps should be checked.

Thankyou, thought as much but just wanted to double check i wasnt being really silly, Wether im full or just fed it doesnt seem to change which makes me think its not duct related.
Trying really hard to stay calm and not worry, easier said than done!!!

I had a breast lump last summer, DD3 was 9 months and I was breastfeeding. It appeared quite suddenly, was up towards my armpit and was tender.

I saw the GP and was fast tracked to breast clinic. They felt and scanned the area and said it was a milk cyst, or a galactocoele. It took a month or so but went away on its own.

I would say yours is probably something similar but the only way to find out for sure is to see the GP and get referred to a specialist breast clinic. Always better to get checked over!

feeding won't make any difference to the size of the lump if its a blocked milk duct so don't panic.

I'm gonna tell you what happened to me last year and hope that this puts your mind at rest. I found a lump in my left breast, hard and about the size of a small marble. My gp referred me to the breast clinic and i had an ultrasound scan, they took a biopsy of the lump and 48 hours later I was told that it was benign. The lump is still there and their theory is that it as scar tissue that has built up since I had the breast abcess which is now almost 7 and a half years ago.

Go to your gp and get checked out but remember that breast changes are common in nursing mothers and that approx 8 out of 10 breast lumps that are biopsied are nothing to worry about, a huge amount of lumps not even requiring a biopsy.

And here too! Had a lump the size of a 20p and got fast tracked to breast clinic due to family history. Saw consultant who thought it was nothing and referred me for an ultrasound that was 3 weeks later. 10 days after I found it, the section of the breast that had the lump got unusually congested and then it disappeared... There was nothing to see by the time I had the ultrasound. Oh and I've had tender lumps in my armpit from shaving.

Good luck. I'm sure it will be fine.

maybe a blocked sweat gland ,may be also a cyst. They can easily be treated.Just draw the fluiid off.I had a lump under my arm pit.It was a boil/ absess.Very red and pain full once it had come out.Used loads of hot baths to bring it to a head..Once it burst it was so less painfull.I was breast feeding at the time.Like a previous MNs said who would want to be a women.GOOD LUCK.

Just to update its turned out to be what they think is a small cyst as its just under the skin rather then in the breast tissue. thanks for the messages of support
