Anyone had this weird bug or was it food poisoning?

I went to a function on Sunday night - had a bit of a gyppy stomach on Monday morning, but the food was quite rich and I don’t have the best digestive system (a couple of my friends said the same). I didn’t think much of it. Then I went out for a group meal on Tuesday eve and on Wednesday I had awful diarrhoea- for about an hour after getting up I must’ve gone to the loo every 5-10 mins and it was practically liquid. Then had another bout at around 2pm. Didn’t feel that bad otherwise but didn’t eat much, watched football at home w DS and his friend (DH went out - I declined on account of my belly - was fine w DH going out).

After the football I went to the kitchen to lock up and felt a bit faint, sat down and it passed and I quickly went to bed. I was messaging friends/ DH about the match and then when DH got back I felt the urge for the loo again and it was literally pouring out - then I passed out on the loo )thankfully DH was there to catch me as I must’ve shouted I didn’t feel well) - for about 30 seconds - I came too and puked everywhere with no ‘warning’. After that I felt a lot better.

Only one loo trip yesterday which wasn’t much and I took the day sick as exhausted , but still feeling very low energy today and appetite not quite there yet. Barely ate yesterday either - mild fruit/toast/crackers).

It just seems weird for a bug as no temperature / I didn’t feel ill as such apart from fainting and now I feel wiped out. Just thinking was it FP or a virus? I’ve had stomach bugs before and they’re different and also got travel diarrhoea but this seems a bit closer to that I suppose.

Sounds like FP to me.
I had a similar trajectory when I picked something up in Morocco years ago. A first wave, then a second one.

Hope you feel better soon!

Lentilcakes · 17/07/2026 09:34

@FlappicusSmith- thanks I’m erring on that side too. I would just like to get my energy back now!! I suppose I can’t report it as no ‘proof’ as to where it came from (and I’m not faffing about w the GP unless it returns!).

That’s interesting. DH was really poorly with exactly the same minus the fainting but he was very weak. No sickness but constantly on the loo. He had to go sick from work as needed to be near a loo at all times and felt wiped out. He was like this for a couple of days. He got a text from a friend last night to say they have the same thing now so I suspect a bug (plus the heat didn’t help).

HidingFromSunshine · 17/07/2026 09:38

There was a sickness (wrong phrase really as it was both shits and sickness) bug going around my area just before half term. Sounds similar. Seemed really easily spread as well.

Lentilcakes · 17/07/2026 09:52

@Icequeen01- sorry your DH had the same. It was grim. Have started eating a bit more normally today so am a bit nervous it will return, but appetite isn’t quite there yet.

@HidingFromSunshine - interesting- so far nobody else in household has it 🙏- the adult DC have their own shower room so we haven’t shared too many facilities.

Have you taken rehydration sachets? They can help perk you up.

Victorius19 · 17/07/2026 10:01

I had this a few weeks back, and decided on food poisoning as it went on for a good 48 hours and then on/off for a few days after that. DH and the other people who'd been around us that evening were all fine, so I blamed the food. Norovirus is usually so contagious that it didn't add up for it for it to be that.

Musicaltheatremum · 17/07/2026 10:03

I'm unwell just now (and I never get unwell) tummy aches, nausea, diarrhoea) felt awful yesterday, better today but still very tired and gripping pains intermittently.

frecklejuice · 17/07/2026 10:25

Ok so this has me totally confused now! I’m taking Mounjaro and I took my 5th dose last Saturday (first time on a higher dose but I did take it a couple of years ago and was fine).

On Monday I didn’t feel great and then Monday evening started with the most horrendous diarrhoea I’ve ever had, like you said it was just pouring out. That went on all night and I didn’t get any sleep, Tuesday I had to phone in sick and then Wednesday I had to force myself into work. Wednesday evening I ate a chicken salad because I was starving and within minutes I was on the toilet, yesterday morning I had a cup of tea and again I was in the toilet. I’ve never felt so sick (no vomiting though) and exhausted, all I want to do is sleep or lay down.

Now I’m confused if it’s the Mounjaro or a bug as it sounds so similar to other people on here.

Wishing you all better soon. I’ve just had some banana and manuka honey so pray for me and my stomach!

I haven’t but I’ve been drinking alkaline water which has electrolytes in it.

DH had it this week and now I'm just starting with it. I thought it strange he didn't have a fever too but food poisoning is usually very fast onset and very dramatic from the start. Whereas this was quite slow onset.

I don’t think it’s noro - not vomited apart from that one time although did feel I would a few times and grabbed the sick bowl.
No-one else has caught it either - I was the only one out of the family who went out to eat on Tuesday (sushi).

That sounds miserable - I have eaten and thankfully didn’t induce any awful diarrhoea. I’m steering clear of dairy and raw veggies though for now.

I’m not on any weight loss jabs & it sounds like it could be a coincidence for you. I’ve lost about a kilo in two days though from this!! Not a pleasant way to lose weight.

It’s all a bit of a mystery- mine came on very fast! Hope you don’t feel too bad with it.

Me too!! Since late Tuesday. The nausea is awful. Can't eat, move or do anything.

frecklejuice · 17/07/2026 11:18

I bought some Pepto Bismol yesterday and as much as it doesn’t taste that great it really helped with the nausea before bed.

sorry to hear. I seem to have got off a bit lightly in terms of length in that case.

I did think about that - diarrhoea ‘aha’ - it’s not as funny when you’re in the midst of it!

Not always, I had campylobacter which took 3 days to start and then I just had a headache and fever for 2 days before the diarrhoea started

Ha! That song is why I bought it, it was just stuck in my head!!

Do be careful. I thought I had a bug but it turned out to be appendicitis and I needed emergency surgery.
