Can my baby get chickenpox?

My ds is 6 months old and was being cuddled by my friend on Friday, she has just found out she has chicken pox. Is my lo likely to get it? If so is it terrible for a baby to have? I've had chicken pox when I was a child. I breastfeed my boy and read somewhere that I will pass some immunity on. Anybody else know?

yes it's possible he'll get it.

My baby got it from her sister at six months. At first I was a bit horrified but it was fine and quite mild. Afterwards I was glad she had it as she didn't have a clue and it's over now.

Ds2 had a really bad case when he was only 6mths (but given he was a premmie, really only three and a half months). He too was breast-fed but still got it.

He looked terrible, the spots were all over, in his ears, up his nose, in his mouth and his nappy-line and bum looked awful BUT none of it really seemed to bother him. He still fed ok and slept right through the night as normal. He had been a bit girny for a few days before the spots came out but comparing how he looked to his behaviour, he looked terrible but was not ill.

At least he has had them now and I don't have to worry too much about getting them later in life, although I know that this can still happen.

bf does not provide immunity to CP - he may get it if he was in close contact x

how long ago did your friend start getting the spots? They are only contagious for 1 or 2 days before the spots appear and for 5 or so days afterwards (until they crust over). You will not know for 10-21 days whether your lo has caught it though as that is the incubation period.

Just got lo into bed.

Thanks for your answers.

Seona1973 my friends spots cam out today and she was holding him on Friday, so fingers crossed she wasnt contagious then
