Gap between stomach muscles after giving birth - what is considered normal?

I have been doing my exercises but not as often as i should (does anyone get round to it with 2 children?)

DD is now 5 1/2 weeks and i have a gap of about 1 to 1 1/2 fingers between the muscles - is this as good as it will get or should i keep going until it's totally closed?

Any firming stomach exercises you can recommend until i can do sit ups?

You should carry on until the gap has closed completely. There's one you can do by just sort of pulling your tummy in and upward every time you think of it - sorry not to describe it better but I think there's been a link to it on one of the threads here recently, so maybe someone will be able to give you more detail.
