What could be causing neck and shoulder pain plus unusual fatigue?

What might be causing this? I woke up a few days ago with pain in my neck/left shoulder which I assumed was from sleeping in a funny position. Over the last few days it’s spread across to my right shoulder and has gone a bit further down my back (to the edge of my shoulder blades. I’m also feeling much more tired than usual. There’s no numbness/tingling in my arms and I have nearly full range of movement - it’s just painful. Ibuprofen tablets and gel aren’t making any difference. Soaking in a warm bath helps temporarily. If it’s still there towards the end of next week I’ll make an appointment to see my GP but in the meantime has anyone had anything similar and if so, what helped?

I had something similar a few years ago. Eventually it turned out to be shingles. The pain started well before the rash. If you do see a rash then start antivirals immediately, they are more effective the sooner you take them.
I hope it isn’t shingles.
Good luck!

Have you tried a hot water bottle on it or ice pack.

Fibromyalgia?

Pain can be tiring? I’d certainly see your GP though.

If medical causes are ruled out and it’s safe to try musculoskeletal intervention; I don’t trust anything outside the most conventional of medicine but eventually tried an osteopath in desperation after months of pain and very little help from physio, who fixed my neck in two sessions.

I started with this last year... the pain was brutally excruciating and horrific.. just woke up with it last June.. gradually got worse l ended up in A&E on morphine.. MRI showed Cervical spondylosis radiculopathy and stenosis.. l am having ACDF spinal surgery in two months.
Please get it checked if it gets worse.
