he is /. fell off play area and bumped head. Had black eye and suspected fracture to cheek, but the doc was happy no probs with numbness or jaw displaced. BUT he still has a headache 9 days later. Across forehead. he is his usual noisy self again. But tonight he is blinking prominantly and says the ache is behind his eyes. Does anyone know uf this should be expected, or should i take him back. i don't want to be seen as a neurotic mum! I know that a bump to the head would cause a headache. (in the past he has had two occasions when he has had a 'tic' , shown as blinking like this.) Any experts about with head injury knowledge? thanks (he wasn't knocked out)

You should take him back to get it checked out. Pressure on the brain from swelling (concussion) can cause tics but with the suspected cheek fracture, it's definitely worth a second look.

Thank you for that - my post should have said he is 8 years old. They did say that they were happy he didn't have a head injury - i guess they meant concussion, as they checked his reflexes, looked in eyes etc. is it possible they missed it then do you think, but would/could it show up 9 days later? Thank you for answering, I am worried about what the best thing to do is... I'll see what he is like in the morning.

I would also take him back to get him checked again.

Actually concussion tends to develop in the 72 hours following injury - which is why A&E departments are meant to send you away with a list of things to look out for

You don't really have a choice - it's not paranoia but common sense.

Thanks - no list given to me! After 4 hours I was just pleased he was ok, and glad to be going home! I will take him in morn...

Ohh, that's naughty! I would take him back to be honest with you. They will keep kids in if they are drowsy/vomiting/KO'd, otherwise they are dependant on the parents to return the little darlings if a problem develops. They should have given you a list of things to look out for.

i hit my head 2 wks ago and still have ache behind my eyes. I was diagnosed with concussion and told it would go in 2-6 wks. I am prob blinking lots too as it's very uncomfortable. I was told not to worry unless i vomited or had double vision. Hth

HereComeTheGirls · 25/06/2008 06:47

also they checked my eyes and vision etc and they were ok,that was to check for bleeding in brain i think.

HereComeTheGirls · 25/06/2008 06:54

i would still get him checked out though. When i went back with pain they x rayed my skull to rule out a fracture. He sounds fine and very similar to myself though, and i am fine apart from sore head

Hi, thanks for your messages - well he woke up with a headache behind his eyes, so we hit casualty at 9.05am. saw 2 doctors, and the outcome was that he was then referred to a trauma doctor, and was given a CT scan, and it was fine. There were no bleeds seen, so i am now very relieved! They said the headaches probably from the bruising inside. Left there at 1.30pm...
