Any dentists? Composite filling but tooth still hurts

Had a composite filling on wisdom tooth Thursday afternoon.

Tooth doesn't hurt any more or less than before the filling but I'm now taking OTC paracetamol.

Is this normal or should I ring the dentist tomorrow morning?

Ring them. I had similar years ago.and an infection had developed.

Ring them but it can take a while to settle down.

I'm not a dentist. But when I have fillings my dentist says to phone him to let him know if there is any pain after the first few hours.

When this happened to me i had to go back and have a root canal done instead

Post-operative sensitivity is fairly common especially if the decay lesion/filling is large. Going nearer the pulp of the tooth annoys it. It may take a while to settle down. In a small minority of cases the discomfort persists and the if the tooth gets sensitive to cold a root canal may be needed. Usually this takes at least a couple of weeks to become apparent.

I had a filling recently and it was sore for about 3 days afterwards and then went away.

@SinceYouSaySo , I had this happen but because the dentist told me to expect discomfort for some time I just plodded on cleaning carefully around the (wisdom) tooth. I had the procedure just before Christmas then we had Christmas then my husband and I went on holiday for a month and all the while this tooth didn’t feel ‘right’. There was no pain and I just thought maybe the filling was a bit high. Anyway on return from our long holiday I picked up an hideous virus which wiped me out for three weeks. 🥴 Basically it was some time before I got back to the dentist, it turned out I had an infection around the root. I was sent to the hygienist for a root plane cleaning and then had to return to assess if there had been any improvement to encourage the viability of root canal, there hadn’t and my tooth was removed this last Friday. 😢
Moral of my sorry tale is get yourself back to the dentist ASAP!
Good luck!

It's quite rare for wisdom teeth to survive having any kind of decay/filling. Because of the shape. So there could well be an infection underneath it. It probably needs to come out. But definitely go back and find out.

I've got one now that's low level been hurting for about 4 months. I'm having it out next week. It looks reasonable but there's something underneath apparently.

Mine wasnt a filling, but a gold crown on a molar. Couldn't xray as I was pregnant. Dentist drilled through it, it exploded over her goggles and in my mouth.EnvyThe nurse turned and threw up.

When a dentist uses a drill the nurse is meant to be using water and suction simultaneously so any blood or pus shouldn't have the opportunity to do that?!

No pain at all last night or today. So relieved! Thanks all for your help!
