High blood pressure/hypertension

DH is 60 and has just been diagnosed with hypertension. He’s on blood pressure medication and they’re adjusting the dose - it’s been too low to make a difference. How worried should I be? It was 186/118 at the GPs today. He’s signed off work for now.

mines about that high when I’m not on medication and am currently on month 3 of ramipril. Not off work though it’s never been mentioned to me that I should be stopping normal activities. I wouldn’t be too worried at those figures ( but may be very wrong!)

Mine was high, I was also overweight.
Put on ramipril. Gave me a cough.
Lost a stone and a half, cut down on salt and exercising more, bp is now normal and I'm off ramipril.
I wasn't told to stop day to day activities when it was high, I was actually told to get more active.

Is he stressed at work / in life? How his is weight & diet? Reduce or stop alcohol, caffeine & salt.

That's around what mine was at diagnosis (I was early 30s). I've been on ramipril 2.5mg for 25 years now, and it's very effective. I think it took around a month to fully kick in though.
