Tinnitus after microsuction for ear wax removal, has anyone experienced this?

3 weeks ago my partner got microsuction done privately. His GP had told him they won’t do a hearing test until the wax is removed from both ears as they were blocked. One ear already had tinnitus and the other was fine.

He had water to remove the wax in the tinnitus ear. He had microsuction on the good hearing ear and now has tinnitus in that ear after treatment. He phoned the person who did his ears and said they were defensive and they haven’t caused it. Obviously they are not going to say it is what they had done but they haven’t offered any advice if the tinnitus will subside. He said he wasn’t warned about possible side effects.

He has had a hearing test at Specsavers since who said he has no hearing loss but will need to go to an ENT specialist on the NHS about the tinnitus.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and has it subsided or any solutions please? He has bad anxiety over this and can’t sleep due to the noise. Thanks.

I have tinnitus for another reason, but have visited a lot of forums.

Sadly, tinnitus after micro suction appears to be quite commonly reported. The sound is incredibly loud and can cause damage. For some people, it is permanent. It's early days though, so hopefully will resolve with time and rest. I'd be getting into and ENT asap as sometimes a course of steroids may lessen inflammation.

I feel the practice should be banned. Tinnitus is life changing.

Yes I developed tinnitus after getting my ears suctioned. I was offered it again and it was part of the reason why I said no (and because it's caused my hearing to be too sensitive)

Yes I did. I had it already but it got much worse and hasn’t resolved tho it doesn’t bother me much now. Now I need a hearing test but my ears are too waxy and I don’t want suctioning again :(
