Run out of the pill 🤦🏼‍♀️

I went to take my pill (Desogestrel) as usual last night 10pm and I have run out. I could have sworn I had another pack.

I had sex on Friday the night I took the last pill in the strip. I'm late 40's definitely in peri. I feel so stupid but I'm worrying I need emergency contraception just in case? I can't get another prescription until my GP opens tomorrow. By which time I'll have missed two doses of it.

Not sure but I would get to a pharmacy hopefully they could give you an emergency supply of your pill or MAP is that's more appropriate?

rwalker · 31/05/2026 08:58

as above pharmacy can sort it

WonderingWanda · 31/05/2026 08:59

Go and speak to a pharmacist, they will usually give you a strip to tide you over.

If you are happy to pay, you can buy Hana OTC, which contains 75 micrograms of desogestrel, so the same as Cerazette/Cerelle/whichever generic name. That way, you won’t miss a further dose. You could ask about emergency contraception at the same time.

Typically there's no local pharmacies open near me today. I'll have a look and see where the next nearest open one is!
Im presuming I'm covered because I took my pill on the same day I had sex. It's also highly unlikely (I think) I need emergency contraception partner has low testosterone and I'm definitely im
peri but I also don't want to run the risk just in case!

Completely forgot - some pharmacies also offer contraceptive services, so the pharmacist can prescribe the pill as the GP does. Not all offer it, but it should show on the NHS website if your nearest open one does. That way you wouldn’t have to pay.

Thankyou! I will have a look online now.

I think you can request emergency prescriptions via the NHS app if you have it

greysloane · 31/05/2026 09:47

I have just done it via 111 online so hopefully I can go get it today!

You aren’t covered by taking the pill on the same day you had sex. Stopping the pill can mean ovulation happens in the following few days and sperm can live inside for up to a week.
Do whatever you can to get pills/MAP asap, ask the pharmacist.

bellsbuss · 31/05/2026 10:38

You don’t need to a prescription for the contraceptive pill anymore , you can get it over the counter at most chemists now

greysloane · 31/05/2026 10:55

I'm all sorted I'm just going now to collect it.
