How much protein do you eat in an average day?

I entered all my meals over 1 week into an app which calculated that I eat an average of 88 grams of protein a day.

I am pretty active, go to the gym and have a physical job. Just wondering how this compares to others and if it’s enough?

I try to aim for 100g. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I don’t. Depends on how hard I’m focusing on my macros at any particular time.

It’s hard to balance everything isn’t it? I’m trying to up my fibre at the same time.

I think it should be 0.7g per LG body weight so unless you weigh more that 110KG you are fine.

FiveMetresUp · 30/05/2026 10:07

@BitOutOfPractice would it be rude of me to ask how much you weigh?

I aim for at least 100g per day. I am very physically active and want to preserve muscle mass so need 1-2g per kilo of body weight ( I weigh 68kg )

FiveMetresUp · 30/05/2026 10:25

@walkmehomecheddar wow that’s a lot! I need to find ways to add more. I’m plant-based which makes it slightly harder, but not impossible.

I weigh 60Kg so try for 60g also veggi but do eat dairy. Greek yoghurt and cottage cheese are good. I also eat chickpeas, tofu and edame.

walkmehomecheddar · 30/05/2026 10:51

Yes definitely easier when a meat eater. DH is vegetarian and a runner and it's harder for him - he relies on pea protein shakes to top up. Eats a lot of tufu, lentils, edamame, nuts, seeds, but also can have greek yogurt, cheese etc.

FiveMetresUp · 30/05/2026 11:05

I have just calculated that if I have lentil soup for lunch and use oat milk for my 3 x flat white coffees, I can add nearly 20 grams of protein, taking me up to 100 grams.

I aim for 120g, usually hit around 100g.

I am trying to increase protein, keep to my fibre goal and reduce calories at the moment. It's temporary as I'm on a pre school speech day diet!

I always hit fibre goals though. That's the easy one.

Gardeningsideeffects · 30/05/2026 11:33

Also everything I've read says to aim for 1g per ideal pound of weight. So I like to be 138lbs ideally, I'm never going to eat that much protein though, bloody exhausting all that eating!

Very rude! 😂 I weigh 78kg

TheLilacFinch · 30/05/2026 12:17

I also try to aim for 100g+ a day.

Usually that comprises one protein shake and then meat, eggs, pulses, Greek yoghurt, cheese etc. I would rather be totally veggie but find it doesn’t keep me going so well, so I generally have chicken or fish once a day most days.

I am about 60kg.

Very very little and don’t track it.
