Appendix or IBS?? Hmmm

sorry coun't think of a better title.. right I have IBS.. past week it has settled down (yipppeee).. but I for 2 days now have has really sharp pains around my belly button .. and low right, a slightly high temp and feeling queezy, ( I would say dodgey bowels.. but I always have this anyway).

So the question is.. it could just be my dodgey stomach, and I don't want to bug docs again about this.. but it could be something I actually need to see someone about. I am really busy (seriously) tomorrow.. if it is appendix.. how long should I hold out for?
Opinions please.. I am trying to get away with this, you can tell huh?

Hi, i had bad pains a few weeks ago and couldn't even sleep the first night, unless I slept on my stomach. The pain subsided over a few days but gp referred me for abdominal ultrasound. Which was done a couple of weeks ago. Gp now has the report and first appt I could get is next Friday to find out results. By the time I had US of course, there was no pain anymore.

Am a little uneasy about what the results will be. Will there be nothing to show for it? As there was after a whole battery of tests after the time I had an episode of renal colic, man that was BAD pain!!
Or will there be something a little more sinister to deal with?...

Trying not to worry about it. I mean what can they see when there's no pain to show for it?

As it happens a very good friend of mine ended up having a very emergency appendicectomy a few weeks back, just the day after I'd previosuly seen her

Klaw · 22/06/2008 22:20

Barnical, another appendix sign is if you have absolutely no appetite even though you've not eaten for a while.

Are you still eating OK?

Littlefish · 23/06/2008 08:12

Any news Barnical?

Littlefish · 23/06/2008 17:30

Where are you Barnical?

No news is possibly not good news!

Are you in the operating theatre as I type?

CarGirl · 23/06/2008 19:07

Littlefish that' what I keep thinking! Still better in hospital than at home.

Littlefish · 23/06/2008 22:08

I've just run a search, and there are no messages from her anywhere on Mumsnet since she went to the hospital last night.

bananasandwich · 24/06/2008 11:46

Barnical · 24/06/2008 20:56

Barnical · 24/06/2008 21:03

What an adventure ! I'm so glad you went to a&e.

Does this mean you've got to put your feet up for a week or so?

suedonim · 24/06/2008 22:58

Wow, you're home fast, Barnical and I trust you're feeling much better! I think i was in for four days with mine, but what a relief once it was gone.

The nurse on the ward very gravely told my dh that under no circumstances was I to do any hoovering for at least six weeks.

Barnical · 25/06/2008 09:44

It's a tad sore but have been given some meds for that. I am under strict instruction not to do anything really for the next week.. and nothing energetic for 4-5 weeks after that!

But I can sit on my lap top and shout instructions at DH.. and Dc's are old enough to get on with it.. eldest (13) will be cooking tea tomorrow night with the help of DS2! I was lucky enough that on sunday morning I cut the grass and did all the washing! so most of everything else can wait now
apart from that.. I had to cancel a sitting I was due to do on monday.. client was very understanding!.. but can get the pencil portrait, for other client done while I'm on the sofa! All a bit frustrating as I need to get a couple of canvases stretched.. which just isn't going to happen for a while! Obviously being self employed.. means no work done.. no pay.. but it's only a few weeks!
Talking to the nurse if everything goes smoothly .. it's no longer like the old days of a week or two in hospital. they get you up.. make sure you can use the loo and walk .. and send you home with a followup appointment for about 10 days time!

It seems obvious to me that there's a direct cause and effect between you mowing the grass on Sunday morning and needing your appendix out Sunday evening! That should stand as a warning to all MNers never to mow the lawn.
