Advice for poor ds on having Chicken Pox and a broken arm [sad]...

He is due to have the cast off on Monday but I assume the hospital will not see him with a contagious infection!

Is he likely to have to keep the cast on until the CP subside (nightmare scenario) or will he have to have it off anyway?

I'm planning an oatmeal bath, piriton and eurax approach but any other tips are welcome!

Hi can i just say if he has chicken pox the spots will be out? Then it is not contagious. I had this my self and the dr told me it was only contagious before the spots came out (which is a bit daft as you dont know u have it until they do), so hopefully he should be ok to have it taken off.

It's contagious until the last batch of spots are out and scabbed over.

Is there no way you can get it off yourself? just in case you can't take him?

I had chicken pox a fortnight ago and the Dr told me I was contagious until the last spot has crusted over. Both DTs have it now and life is hard.

Can you ring the dept in the hospital and ask them to save a wasted trip if they won't take his cast off?

Meant to also say you have my sympathy!

Oh you have my sympathy,

This thread gives some excellent advise

DS1 currently has them, including one on the inside of his eye lid

Thanks guys!! Am feeling very sorry for the little chap as he now has many more spots and, coupled with his exczema, I fear we are in for a tricky few days.

And DH is going away on business (gulp) so I'm flying solo here.

As some of you know ds is autistic and sometimes explaining things is tricky. However he has been a trooper about the broken arm so no doubt he'll survive chicken pocks ok!

Maybe we'll start a support thread for all parents in the chicken Pox zone
