I have attached photos of my lower leg that bruised extensively after I fell over 3.5 weeks ago. I did get it checked a week after and it was x-rayed and I was told it wasn’t broken. Just badly bruised.

it had appeared to be getting better and the bruising was getting better.

But I’m now finding it is now worse in my ankle area. In a place that I didn’t have it before.

the first photos showed how it came bruised after 3 days and my ankle foot was fine.
the next photos are from my ankle/foot today.
but it has gotten better in places
is there anything I can do to help the bruises go down quicker

Arnica cream is great for bruising but as these are established bruises you might just have to wait it out.

Unfortunately I think you are just going to have to wait it out :(

I will try some arnica cream
sorry-it said the pics need approval
I think the photos are approved now.

would the arnica tablets work as well? As I saw some in the health food store. I wasn’t sure which formulation would be best

Ice and elevation at the time might have helped a bit, but I agree with others, it will take time to resolve.

Why did you wait a week to get it looked at?

I hadn’t realised how long it was going to take for the bruise to change through all the colours.
I definitely hadn’t realised that it would still spread after it had started improving. Especially around my ankle and foot.

How long does bruising last?

I had very similar bruising last summer and it took about 6 weeks to heal completely. It sort of healed from the top down and the ankle area got worse for a while. I think you just have to wait it out. I can still see a very faint shadow on my skin of the outline of the bruising ☹️

It didn’t come out straight away. It had swollen and I thought just a graze.

this is the picture I took the day after.

I can't see your photos but my legs are still bruised, dented and black from a 'mishap' at the start of January. I'm sorry I cant tell you anything fabulous but you you will get better.

My DD fell at school and hurt her elbow, we took her to A&E as it was swollen, she got an x-ray andwas told it's broken and got a full arm cast. A week later we attended the fracture clinic, they decided that her elbow was actually not broken just sprained. They took the cast off and her arm was purple up to her wrist. I have never seen anything like that before. asked why does she have a bruised wrist and the doctor said: gravity.
We did use arnica cream and the bruising disappeared.
Hope you will feel better soon.

Keep an eye on it, if still swollen/hot etc please get yourself checked for clots. I recently had a badly swollen knee and found out that even just that was a risk for blood clots.

I always use arnica tablets for bruising, they really help.
