Weird rash on my toes & other symptoms anyone else had this?

Second time I’ve had this “rash” now. And slight swelling now.
Please excuse my toes! My husband calls them my tingers!.
it’s under the skin of my second toe, it also makes my toe a little swollen. And feels like I have splinters of glass inside when I walk or put pressure. That’s my left foot. For about 3 weeks.

Then last night I noticed it’s starting on the underneath of my big toe on right foot. On my right foot the second toe is also quite swollen over the joint and the joint is tender to touch. Not sure if it’s connected.

I have been quite run down, we lost our 10 year old dog the end of March and it’s hit us quite hard, my husband in particular. Moved into our new home and our son is disabled.
im waiting on gynea surgery in June. Im having quite a bit hair loss when washing, my hot flushes have increased I feel like I have sunburn on my face.
no tight shoes, my toes don’t feel like they’re rubbing when I walk. No other symptoms to say it’s hand foot and mouth.
I’ve had extensive tests due to bad IBS and mouth ulcers
i seen my GP the first time I had this with my feet and she refused to help and said to come off propranolol due to me having raynauds.
so I’m just reaching out to ask if anyone has had this rash or similar with their feet and other symptoms ?
pictures awaiting approval

They might be chilblains? It could relate to your Reynaud’s.

Winterwalks90 · 04/05/2026 18:49

I did google them but they don’t really look the same , they aren’t itchy either they feel like I have splinters under the skin when I walk

I had a few similar things like blisters along the side of my big toe, and also under my big toe nail. I did have athlete's foot in both feet last July that never went away completely, and occasionally flares up with the blisters.

I also have pompolyx eczema too (mainly on my hands), which might be the cause of the blisters too.

Have you had anything like athlete's foot before, OP? Blisters can be a symptom, apparently. 🤔

Walkyrie · 04/05/2026 23:35

Could it be rheumatoid arthritis op? I hope it isn’t, but may be worth a look.

SomeEsotericJoke · 04/05/2026 23:58

Maybe lupus, with the ulcers, Raynaud's and sunburn feeling on your face

dizzydizzydizzy · 05/05/2026 02:55

yes. I have had something similar but more severe. Might be the same.

I’ve had all sorts of investigations and they have all drawn a blank.

Have you got POTS or ME by any chance? Or EDS? Or ADHD?

I believe the conclusion is that it is an autonomic problem. In other words my nervous system is telling the capillaries in my toes to shut down. I am taking Nifedipkne to
dilate my blood vessels.

I would recommend you keep your feet warm - warm socks, slippers indoors, UGGS outside if you have them or certainly closed in shoes.

Winterwalks90 · 05/05/2026 08:24

@dizzydizzydizzymy Uggs are my best friends haha. I bought some thermal socks from M&s. At home I live in my crocs.

That sound ls good. For me - medication and keeping my feet warm are absolutely key. In your shoes (pun intended), I’d take photos every few days to make sure they are not getting worse. If they are, go back to the GP. Obviously, you may actually have a completely different problem to me.

I’d be curious to hear what they say.

Winterwalks90 · 05/05/2026 08:56

@dizzydizzydizzybooked in for tomorrow morning, she said they should be able to give me a diagnosis and treatment, and write to my GP if needed.

Cool!

Winterwalks90 · 06/05/2026 13:29

Seen the podiatrist she was great, she agreeed it’s not chillblains. But it does look like tissue disturbance from raynauds and the standing on glass sensation is nerve irritation.
she’s going to write to my GP and ask me to be referred on further. She also did a Doppler of my feet which was fine 😊

You may well be sent to a rheumatologist. My GP said very severe secondary Raynaud’s. Although I don’t think that diagnosis was right. I’ve had gazillions of blood tests, a Doppler, and a couple of tests at the vascular studies section of the Royal Free in London:

Winterwalks90 · 07/05/2026 19:48

Evening @dizzydizzydizzy
did you get a answer for your problem ?
I actually seen my GP this morning. Called at 8am as I woke up with another sore. He said it’s quite severe raynauds, and I’m booked in for bloods on Tuesday. He wants to wait for my bloods to come back then he’s going to refer me to rheumatology.
he said if he refers me to rheumatology without doing my bloods first they will bounce back the referral.

Yes., my GP also ran a load of blood tests before the referral and the rheumatologist did a load more. All
were normal. The Doppler was also normal.

I think in my case it is an autonomic problem - so my nervous system instructing the cappiliaries at the ends of toes to over constrict. So, comparing myself to a computer, it is akin to a
software bug rather than physical damage to the hardware. So all the tests have shown that my blood vessels are structurally normal but unless I take medication to dilate my blood vessels then my toes do not get enough blood.

Do you want to see some photos? They are a bit gross.

Winterwalks90 · 07/05/2026 20:00

Ah that’s very interesting!
and yes please if you don’t mind sharing

And one more photo - this one is showing blood pooling in my feet due to POTS. So I have 2 things happening at once. This purple ness goes away if I raise my feet.

SerenitySeeker4 · 07/05/2026 20:24

That sounds really painful. I’d honestly try to get a second opinion if you can, especially as you’ve also got the hot flushes, hair loss and feeling generally run down. Stress and exhaustion absolutely can flare up all sorts of inflammatory or autoimmune things too, and you’ve clearly had a huge amount on your plate lately. I’m so sorry about your dog as well, losing them after 10 years is heartbreaking.

Winterwalks90 · 07/05/2026 20:26

That looks painful !! Do you find it you get a small cut on your toe or foot it takes ages to heal?
I did notice last night the soles of my feet go purple to.
then tonight I was picking my son up from his hobby and my friend commented on how blue my lips where 😂 she seemed horrified when I said yeah that’s normal haha

I’m having bloods done Monday then a referral to rheumatology 😊
I showed the GP pictures of my flushes and hair loss.
thankyou for that ♥️ I’m just trying to get through this tough period and looking after my family. I feel like I’ve lost my other arm though. And the days are ever so lonely without him. I worked from home so he was constantly on my lap, on holiday with, both births of our children and so many other milestones x

Blue lips is worrying. It usually means there is not enough oxygen in the blood or your circulation is poor.

I don’t have any trouble with wound healing. That is a symptom of diabetes. A nurse in A&E mistakenly assumed I had diabetes. I expect that will be included in your blood tests.
