Tooth pain and whether related to ear issue

Recently, I had what I thought was earwax blockage but no pain, used oil in the air which helped relieve it somewhat but not totally cleared.

A few days ago, I started to have ear pain, although no fever, and my upper and lower back teeth occasionally hurt.

At the weekend, one back lower molar became very sensitive to touch and liquid and even air passing over it.

Went to GP who couldn’t see down the ear because of wax and suggested I see my dentist because of the tooth involvement.

Dentist’s xray showed no decay or fractures or anything else so he put me on antibiotics, which I’ve been on for a couple of days and the tooth is no longer as sensitive, although I am reluctant to chew on it.

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow for the filling on that tooth to be removed for further investigation and possible tooth extraction depending on the findings.

I’m terrified of having the tooth removed as it’s a large molar and I had a very negative experience with a similar tooth on the other side.

I can’t shake the feeling that this might be connected to the ear issue which preceded the tooth pain.

I’ve also had fleeting sensitivity with other teeth during this time although not the sharp pain associated with the molar.

I’ll discuss with my dentist but I’m minded towards letting the course of antibiotics run and see how things are at the end before rushing into extraction.

I just wonder if anyone has had an experience of ear/tooth pain (or tooth pain referred from somewhere else)?

Years ago I had pain on one side of my mouth and my ear and down my neck. I went to the GP as I thought I had an ear infection.
He looked in my mouth and ear and then asked if I had a stressful job ( teacher so yes)
The conclusion was that I was probably clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth in my sleep.
Might be worth considering?

@24Dogcuddler - I will raise this with him as there are stressful issues dealing with at the moment.

Like you I also had pain radiating down the neck

TBH my body doesn’t feel great, bones feel a bit achy but probably old(er) age.

Same. I have a mouth guard type thing to wear at night which stopped the grinding. Not found anything to stop the clenching during the day!
