Anyone had robotic surgery? What is the recovery?

I am due to have surgery in a few weeks, to move my ureter from its current location and put it back into my bladder. It has been damaged from a csection accident. So the surgeon will cut it off above the damage and make a new opening in my bladder for it.

I’ll have a catheter for 10 days and a stent 6 weeks. He’s hoping to do it all robotically with 6 cuts. My husband needs to take time off work as I’m on maternity leave and will need help with the baby and toddler.

Has anyone had robotic surgery or a similar procedure? How long did you need to ‘recover’? He’s not sure how long to request from work.

Could you ask your consultant? Or contact their receptionist. I need my gallbladder removed and thats 1-2 weeks. Im also on maternity, so understand how stressful it is!

I've had two lots of robotic abdominal surgery in the last couple of years (a semi colonectomy and a hysterectomy). I think the main concern would be I was told not to lift anything heavier than a kettle with a cup of water in it for the first six weeks, so you may struggle with baby and toddler.

Wishing you all the best with it.

I had gallbladder surgery, and my baby was 3 months old. the documents all said 6 weeks but my Dr said I could lift my baby when the pain was gone. Was about 2 weeks before I felt able to lift them/anything weighty.

Not robotic but had a lap with 7 incisions. Was off work for 3 weeks
after about 9 days felt ok to drive, gentle cleaning, pottering about
I stayed in hospital overnight and needed help to get out of bed the first few times but was ok home alone after that
