My cycle has completely gone to pot - what on earth is going on?

I've been keeping a note of the length of my cycle since the beginning of the year, I'm not trying to get pg (an 8 month old is enough to put me off any more for the moment anyway!).
The thing is it is completely erratic. So far it has ranged from 24 days to 36 and still counting (I even bought a pg test today - not that I think I'm likely to be but just to put my mind at rest!)
Is this even vaguely normal?

Happened to me earlier this year, missed a period every other time, so had 8 weeks between periods. According to GP, nothing wrong...but he did test for and rule out early menopause, hypothryroidism and PCOS. No stress that I was aware of or over exercising (as if). I too tested for PG. The thing was because my cycle was all over the place I ended up getting pregnant and am now 8 wks !! Go to GP and get checked out.

Oh dear god, laid back! I couldn't get pg again, not now, timing would be the worst ever!
Right, I'm booking a gp's appointment then. So this variation is not normal then? Was scared GP would just say 'Oh there's nothing wrong with that'....

It can be 'just one of those things' or it can be something else - good to get a blood test to rule things out. Are you feeling generally well ?

HonorMatopoeia · 18/06/2008 20:45

Yes, I'm knackered but nothing out of the ordinary!

Wierd! I'm experiencing exactly the same thing.Last month was 26 days, this month 31 & still counting.I know I'm not pregnant, and my periods have always been somewhat erratic,so I'm not panicking yet,but it is a bit worrying.

Hope you get it sorted.

im the same too im 33 mine are v irregular

fortyplus · 19/06/2008 21:48

I was dead regular for years then went awry - between 17 and 34 days. It was all down to hormones, apparently. But I was told that it might mean I wasn't ovulating so if you're ttc I'd get checked out.

I didn't want children at the time, so my consultant told me top come back to see him if I was ttc for 6 months without success. When we did I got pg right away, so the irregular cycle didn't affect my fertility.

Not trying to conceive at the moment, we haven't ruled out a third though! I've now had the longest cycle ever - AF arrived today so that's 38 days . Still haven't got round to booking gP appointment, per usual I've been running around after everyone else instead!
