styes (sp?) but not styes

Can anyone help? For the last year, I've been getting what feel like styes (mainly on my lower eyelid but once or twice on upper lids).

The reason I don't think they're styes is that it almost feels like a boil under the skin. One time it 'peaked' on my bottom lid (sorry, pretty gross), but often whatever it is will stay under the skin and my eye will just seem quite red and swollen.

Does anyone have any ideas what this is? I heard somewhere it could be cholesterol related? I think my diet is pretty good though so am not sure if it could be this. And they don't feel like small spots, more like how it feels when a boil's brewing under the skin.

Any advice anyone? Thanks for reading!

It could be a meibomian cyst, otherwise known as a chalazion. www.doctoronline.nhs.uk/masterwebsite1asp/targetpages/specialts/ophthal/chalazio.asp
