sick toddler - how much sleep is too much?

Hi - my 2 year old has a chest infection , and is on amoxicillin since last Friday.

She seemed to be getting better, but is sleeping loads. Got up this morning at 7:00 am, had a bit of breakfast, went back to bed until 11:00. Had a bit of yoghurt and then another 2 hour nap. Awake for 3 hours and asleep again.

No temperature. Not floppy. Spoke to HV who said to let her sleep it off.

You would think I would be thrilled that an active toddler is resting, but I am so worried about her!!

Let her sleep, its the best medicine she can have. So long as she's reasonably bright and responsive while awake don't worry. My ds1 is the same, when ill he sleeps

I agree with pheebe.

I know it is worrying and it goes against the grain because normally you would do anything to make them sleep, yet it seems wrong.

Let her sleep though

Thanks so much - she normally goes to bed at 7:00. Should I wake her up so she has a relatively normal night? I'm not bothered about waking up myself - just want to do what's best for her!

Thanks again!

nah, don't wake her up at all, just let her sleep through.

She may even stay asleep all night and be ok tomorrow.

Squonk - saw HV this afternoon and your advice was what she said... wasted trip.

Plus she INSISTED on wearing her butterfly wings, and was singing across the surgery, 'fly...fly'...
