He was moaning last night it hurt, and today his eyelid is swollen. No discharge. I looked it up on nhs direct and the only liknk was for conjunctivitus. Is that the only thing it could be do you think? thanks (he is 6)

an insect bite?

Is the eye itself red?

belgo · 17/06/2008 07:56

or a stye?

Chocolateteapot · 17/06/2008 07:57

Could it be Hayfever ? My DD's eyelids used to swell with this.

how well can he open his eye?

WrongSideOfTwenty · 17/06/2008 08:05

My dd had conjunctivitus recently and her whole eyelid swelled up before the discharge started.

Crystaltipsandalaistar · 17/06/2008 08:17

he has had a swollen eyelid before from hayfever, but his face was swollen at that time too, and this time its just one eye, so sure its not that this time.

is it painful?

If it's not painful, if he can open it well, and if the eye itself isn't red, then I would probably send him to school.

he went to school moaning well! Not at all happy with me! Been docs and she said it isn't conjunctivitus, but a stye! He is still moaning though 'it really really hurts!Don't know much about styes, so if i'd have known that I doubt I would have taken him! Going on NHS now to look it up! Thanks for your help!

Aww, poor thing. My Gran used to get them all the time and she said it was very painful. Hope it gets better soon.
