Hi my lo has had congestion since he was born (via elect cs) and has been a bit sickt since probably about 8 weeks and it seems to have really peaked and he’s no nearly 4 months old he doesn’t have the fussiness or irritability but almost always brings quite a bit of milk up after a feed he’s still putting on plenty of weight just bringing up formula and very congested does this sound like reflux to you ? My gp is questioning milk allergy or reflux but to me it more so points to reflux ?

thankyou

Could be lactose intolerant, my goddaughters baby did exactly the same. She was breast feeding so had to cut out lactose as well. I’m also lactose intolerant, it doesn’t make me vomit, instead it gives me stomach cramps and diarrhoea, 🥴

Is it definitely more than normal spit up? My kids threw up everywhere all over the place for about 8 months each. Never distressed them at all which was why I never worried about reflux etc.

Well it IS reflux, because that's just what the stomach contents coming back up is called. Reflux is completely normal and they will grow out of it in time. GORD (Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease) is far more severe and I think you'd find your little one was thoroughly miserable, regularly hosing down everything in sight, and generally failing to thrive. It sounds to me like baby is just a 'happy spitter' and will eventually grow out of it. Smaller, more frequent feeds can help, effective burping and keeping them upright for a good half hour after feeding.

One of mine used to throw up all the time. Carpet was ruined, people at baby groups used to give us a wide berth, constantly had a supply of muslins to hand! But he was happy and grew well.

Other one rarely threw up but was miserable and uncomfortable.

I think the acid hurts more than the milk coming up
