Diabetes 27.7mmol and freaking out

MissCeltic · 16/02/2026 01:51

I have diabetes type two and have kind of let it go recently. I went out for a fish and chips dinner and was quite thirsty so I checked my glucose monitor and it’s showing 27.7mmol and now panicking.

Anyone else had a reading this high.

You need to contact your GP in the morning and let them know it is urgent. Don’t take no for an answer, this needs addressing now. It might be an idea to phone 111 now but be prepared for them to tell you to go to A&E.

What meds are you on for the diabetes?

Starlight7080 · 16/02/2026 02:16

You could call 111 for advice but in the mean time sit and drink plenty of water. See if it helps .

Yes that is very high. You need a review urgently.

How long have you been diagnosed? Do you take metformin or insulin? One fish and chip meal in a type2 diabetic not insulin dependent shouldn't cause readings that high but of course seek medical attention if you feel unwell and your glucose monitor is accurate

Call 111

Get proper medical advice now especially if you have ketones.

You are at high risk for DKA diabetic ketoacidosis a very severe complication of diabetes.
You said you'd let it slip recently do you mean you haven't taken your insulin or metformin??
I'd call 111 they will prob tell you to go to A&E straight away.
You cannot mess with your diabetic drug regime it's extremely serious you could end up seriously ill or dead.

Did you get sorted, OP? How are you?
