Worst Patient Ever - Can’t Cope with Virus! Advice Needed

I’m a teacher and have been off work half-term this past week.

For a week now I’ve had a horrible virus that started with a scratchy throat, tickly cough and feeling tired. Then came the sinus headache, facial pressure and sore ears, thick congestion etc. I’ve felt miserable and haven’t left the house, apart from going to the GP on Thursday to get antibiotics. Each day the sinus headaches and facial pain don’t seem to be improving, and last night I had chills and woke up drenched from a night sweat.

I’m freaking out because I have to be better for work on Monday, and am just not coping well at all. Thoughts are running through my head, wondering why I’m not getting better by now etc, despite trying the usual home remedies.

Any tips to help me cope would be greatly appreciated.

I was ill with it for 3 weeks, and still felt a bit off for a fourth week, and others have said they suffered for a similar length of time, or even worse. I had night sweats, not every night, but probably 3 times a week. My ears felt like they were full of soup for about four weeks.

The worst bit lasted 9-10 days, the rest of it was bearable.

So yes it's horrible, but I wouldn't worry about why you're not recovering yet. After four weeks I felt more or less back to normal, although still a bit tired.

A normal cold can last 10-14 days
its normal for these bugs to linger
sleep, fluids and time, you’ll be okay

Sounds miserable @OneNeedyDog

you've most likely tried these but some suggestions here and here

I'd also try steaming

I felt the same over Christmas. I never thought was going to recover and thought this is my life now!
The doc told me I’d feel better by the weekend as I’d already had it 3 weeks and I did start recovering. Took another week and half to feel normal though.

Rest as much as you can.

@Marinel Glad to hear you’re feeling back to normal again, and thanks for the reassurance. I’m the worst patient, but it helps to hear that others have experienced the same virus and got through it with time 😊.

@Fatiguedwithlife Thank you for the reassurance. I’ll try to be more patient and will hopefully turn a corner soon 😊

@Freya1542 Thank you for these suggestions. I’m going to try steaming to see if this helps 😊

@Rummikub Thank for the reassurance 😊. Glad you are feeling back to normal again after being unwell over Christmas. It helps to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel - it’s a horrible old virus!

I researched thinking it didn’t feel like flu or cold and it fitted the symptoms of an adenovirus. It was vile. Started with an itchy scratchy throat and escalated.

I’m finding I’m breathing through my mouth when sleeping which is making me snore loudly . I wake myself with my snoring . My mouth is very dry and my nose feels very stuffed up. Chronically tired and headaches, runny nose, nausea.
