If it's VERY sore and he's feeling VERY lethargic, it might be glandular fever. I'm looking up the symptoms for you now.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/06/2008 15:54

Symptoms

The incubation period is between 33-49 days. Symptoms include:

  • high fever - above 39°C (102.2°F)
  • sore throat (this can be severe and mistaken for tonsillitis)
  • tiredness and lack of energy
  • loss of appetite
  • weight loss
  • swollen tender glands (in the neck and around the body)
  • headache
  • muscle pains
  • occasionally a fine red rash
  • sometimes an enlarged, tender spleen

DD2 and I have this - feel really rough and tired but don't actually look all that ill (so no sympathy for us ). It did come on V quickly. There is always something like this 'going round' I guess.

DD had this last week - she was throwing up too, but had to go to school as it was her Psychology A level. The school told her to go to the doctor & get a letter to send with her script & the doctor said he thought it was tonsillitis rather than glandular fever.
It came on suddenly & went suddenly - 24 hours later she was fine.
Now we just have to hope she hasn't screwed up her exam too much, as she wants tro do Psycholgy at uni.

That'll teach him to eat all your kettle chips then!

sore throat and high temp bug thing going round for last couple of months.

recommend ibuprofen 6-8hrly max 3 doses in 24hrs and paracetamol 4-6hrly max 4 doses in 24 hrs (can take both)

boots do some very good throat sweets that have anaestatic in them to numb throat, also the ones called throaties are good.

lots of sleep and rest needed

aaahh since when did teenage boys need an excuse to stay in bed!!

thank you am dosing him up and will take him to gp in the morning as i think the white spots is infection adn so probably needs antibiotics. No encouragement needed to lie on the sofa feeling sorry for himself
