Weird skin thing on finger, am I turning into a reptile?

Well the sort of 'cap" of my little finger, almost down as far as the cuticle, has been odd for the last few months. First the skin all shed from it, as if calloused and torn. Underneath the skin was shiny and new and very thin and sensitive, but in a couple of days it had hardened over till it could really feel nothing. A few weeks later the skin shed, underneath shiny, new, few days later it was like a triple or quadruple layer of skin, hard, insensitive. And it's been doing this cycle for about 3 months or more.

Can anyone save me 50 quid for the GP by offering a quick diagnosis???

the skin on my fingers sheds in summer. I get little circles where it looks as if my skin has "popped". I have been told that it is because I have sweaty hands (nice !) and the sweat collects causing the top layer of skin to come off. Mine can get quite sore.

Or you may be allergic to something? Is it itchy?

(where do you live that it costs you £50 for a GP !)

Allergic reaction?

When i have a bad reaction to a substance the allergy comes out at 'exit points' i.e. the tips of my fingers ooze and peel and my earring holes too. Gross but true!

Have you tried putting a cream on like eumovate or similar?

Of course, you could really be turning into a Lizard. Are you getting any urges to lie flat on hot rocks?

Wow weird. I live in Ireland so really I mean 50 euro which is ... 37 pounds? It's not itchy and it's only one finger, and not even a very used one at that! Though I do use it for the delete key...

I don't think I have partic sweaty hands, even if palms sometimes, not usu. fingertips.

Snakewoman seems only answer.

I am getting a hot rock urge, yes, but didn't realise it was connected.

I haven't tried a proper emollient cream, only normal hand cream (because the GP is so likely to prescribe Liz Earle, of course ) to no avail.

my DD's finger did this after going on a guide camp(she was on washing up duty ) we put it down to the washing up liquid but it keep doing it on and off for months the GP said it was a fungal infection and steriod cream cleared it up. (took a month to clear tho!)

good luck

Oh no. If is fungal thing could it spread to other fingers? Would it not have already?

on my DD it stayed in the same patch for months and then after about 7months it started to spread so we went to the GP (a bit late I know but it wasnt bothering her at the time, honest )

Have you tried disinfecting your delete key?

No19 · 15/06/2008 18:56

No but I will certainly stop licking my finger when it brushes off the Marmite jar.

Will try emollient and if no improvement will visit GP for fear of fungus.

Thanks all .
