7 month old with runny nose for 10 day - Cold? Teething? Anything I can do?

Says it all really - it's affecting er sleeping and eating and usual sunny disposition. Thought it was a bit of a summer cold and that it would pass, but after 10 days it doesn't seem to be improving.

Reluctant to give Calpol with too much abandon (currently only using it if she wakes at night and I can't resettle her by nay other means) as it upsets her tummy a bit.

As far as I know nothing has changed to cause any allergies, and besides, her eyes aren't red or anything - just this wretched nose.

Any ideas? Thanks lovely ladies...

Hello - I have just gone through this with my 7 month old (I think we were on the same anti natal thread actually????) - anyway, it went on for ages and she was so congested she was up 4 or 5 times a night unable to breathe but it eventually turned out to be a non specific viral infection. Thankfully all cleared up now and she is back to her gorgeous self. I found olbas oil and raising the bed really helped. When the infection kicked in nurofen was the best at getting her temp down. But you know, it may well be hayfever or teeth....who knows!! Hope that's helped a bit. Good luck!

Hi Nellie - yes we were, I remember!! Hope you're doing well and your LO bringing you lots of joy. Was wondering about an infection of some kind - did you see GP ab out it in the end? Considered going, but they may well be sick of the sight of me and think I'm being overly neurotic. Which I probably am...

Did it just clear up of it's own accord.

Have olbas muslin draped around the end of cot, but hadn't though of raising the head... might try that tomorrow... good thought, thanks...

I can hear the poor little mite snoring from the next room...

Raising the head of the bed really does help with the breathing - I usually just put a towel underneath the mattress. Aparently those plug in vapourisers are really good (karvol do one) too -

I didn't see a doctor until the infection was well and truly there (like you, I wasn't really sure what it was prior to that because she had been like it for so long and was still smiling etc) and as I thought, there was nothing he could really do - viral things just have to run their course - the important thing is to keep their temps down if they get one. Always wise to check these things though cause it could well be an infection - colds often lead to ear infections with babies (although I remember with DS that when he had an ear infection, he really screamed when I lay him down) Let's just hope your LO will get through it on their own.... hope you get a good night tonight.
