I cant stop crying this morning, am scared am having a breakdown or something, i posted on monday about a bit of blood in my stool, was taking anti inflammatorys at the time and had a bit of red blood in my stool, along with stomach cramps that felt like labour pains, i went to see the nurse prescriber and she thought it was the medication (diclofenac) so she took me off them and said it should clear in a week but if tis still there after a week to come back for more investigations (she also checked for piles and couldnt see any). So i have had my head stuck down the toilet every morning checking, tursday therew as a small bit wednesday i dont think was any and yesterday i didnt think there was any, today i went and its normal colour but with a few full stop sized bits of bright red blood surely the medication could not be causing that still? Im convinced i have bowel cancer even though im only 25. Then to top it off i took dd to school and at the bottom of our garden there is a dip where the rain collects so i carried her over that to save her shoes getting wet and i slipped, we both fell and she cut her nose and has a fat top lip and i twisted my ankle which was even more painful as thats the ankle i have tendonitis in, im constantly crying, the council have just been to fix something and i couldnt stop crying whilst they where here, i feel so helpless and down and i dont know what to do

Pain can be excruciating from an Anal Fissure or tear.

Mucous should be there, but sometimes people with IBS or other bowel problems can get this.

Because you are so anxious I think you are missing the point some other posters have mentioned.

Bright Red blood is from something close to the opening, such as a tear or a pile.Sometimes Piles are internal,so cant be seen, and if they arent "playing up" when you get examined you may miss them,as when they are sore, and swollen you can feel them.

Bowel cancer signs are "changes" in Bowel habits ie. constipation or diarrhoea, though again these can be signs of other problems.
Dark Red Blood Stained Stools.
Unexplained weight loss etc. to name a few..

It sounds like you have irritated your Tummy with the Anti-inflammatories,either by taking them on an empty stomach,or sometimes they just upset you, anyway.

If you have been constipated, you can "tear" slightly straining, and this would cause spots of blood,or sometimes "splashes" of blood in the toilet,or straining can cause a "Pile",(or Childbirth)possibly the Stomach pain, and the blood is not connected, but just a coincidence.

nicand2 · 13/06/2008 16:23

I would also think that the amount of worrying you are doing is giving you tummy pains. I second the bit about the bright red blood.

loopylou6 · 13/06/2008 16:46

Nic, i get pain in the bottom of my tummy, very similar to labour pains, although the pain has only happened twice, i have had this sort of pain before, i seem to have a reactive bowel, for eg, when im scared or nervous i have to go the toilet ALOT and when im cleared out i start with these pains.
I have also been the toilet for a second time before and it was all clear thankfully but thats no guidance of what it may look like tomorrow.
Sawyer, do you think the anti inflammatories could of caused this, when i was obsessing thinking about that before i thought that may make my tummy bleed, which would present as very dark blood wouldnt it?
I really really appreciate everyones help by the way.

AFAIK ,you should passdark blood if it is from higher up,so if the tabs have caused this then yes is the answer to your question.Which is why I think they might not be connected. You could get tummy ache/pain etc. but provided this isnt ignored and the tabs taken for a period of time,I cant imagine they would make you bleed.

People with Gastric Ulcers can bleed dark red blood, and also vomit blood.

gingerninja · 13/06/2008 16:57

loopy, so do I. Sometimes I'm doubled over in agony. It sounds like you might have IBS too. Symptoms very often brought on by stress.

It's nothing to worry about from a health point of view btw. It's just bloody uncomfortable.

loopylou6 · 13/06/2008 17:02

So the tablets are more than likely not connected then? Maybe i could of irritated an internal pile (if i have any) by a forceful BM? Is it really unlikely that a 25 year old can gte bowel cancer as iw as reading the net before about 2 girls aged 25/6 who died from the disease Also would bleeding be constant with cancer? As i mentioned before my second visit to the toilet produced a normal stool whilst the first had a few specks in it.
Am i annoying you yet?

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 13/06/2008 17:03

Yep GN that sounds exactly like my pains which are also brought on by stress normally (except for this time when there was no stress)

I am sure with bowel cancer the blood is dark, possibly even blackish, certainly not red. You are worrying yourself unnecessarily there I think. Not that I am not unsympathetic as I tend to think every symptom I have is a symptom of some cancer or another. But honestly, from all I have read, blood from bowel cancer is dark.

I have had an anal fissure (a bad one) once and I occasionally get minor reoccurances of it. The blood then is bright red but more usually seen on the paper as opposed to on the poo. Also, the pain in your anus on passing the poo is excrutiating. You would know if you had a fissure, believe me.

I am so sorry you are panicking about this and I so relate to your feelings. But honestly, listen to everyone here: you haven't got bowel cancer!

Sawyer64 · 13/06/2008 17:13

You will always have exceptions to the rule when asking whether a 25yr old could get Bowel Cancer, same as Breast Cancer tends to occur in the older women over 45yrs etc. but we all know or have heard of an exception.

Generally though,it is very unlikely that it would occur in a young person. These people probably have had a genetic link, often a Cancer "runs" in families, they are even isolating Genes now.

With Breast Cancer they can isolate the Gene now,but its usually only avaliable for people who have a high risk such as someone whose Mother,Sister and Aunt had Breast cancer etc.Or you have alot of money for Genetic tests.....

Thank you SO much for the words of support ladies, i truely appreciate it, my dad has just been round to pick up ds and had me laughing (he's devastated as hes just realised he has man boobs ) which was a nice change from today. I think im gonna have some wine tonight, ive been avoiding alcohol incase it causes more bleeding but tbh the way ive felt today getting tipsy would be a welcome relief. Plus ive started getting panicky at night time coz i know the morning is near and i will have to go the toilet . I do realise that i will have to change my mumsnet name soon as everyone now probably thinks im completely insane

Ok paranoia alert. I have a bottle of rose wine, if i drink it will it colour my poo?

OP posts:
gingerninja · 13/06/2008 21:26

Loopy, can I suggest you flush before you even stand up tomorrow. Save yourself the agony so to speak. If you find yourself getting anxious about something can you just avoid the situation ie not looking? Would that help. Sorry if the advice is basic.

loopylou6 · 13/06/2008 21:41

Lol GN, see now that is my way of thinking, i ALWAYS normally flush without looking, was only the pains that made me decide to look, and boy i wish i hadnt. So the wine question then?

OP posts:
Sawyer64 · 13/06/2008 21:44

You are probably addressing the wine question to someone else.....But it wont colour your Poo or wee! It will probably make you feel more relaxed.Nurses orders then 1-2 glasses of wine tonight then!

pipsy76 · 13/06/2008 21:52

Dear loopylou hope you feel better soon! I have health anxiety too- my recurring 'problems' being nose cancer and breast cancer!! My poor dad ending up paying £400 for me to have a private nose scan because I was convinced I was dying a few weeks after having DS1. I've realised HA is a relapsing condition, I can be fine for weeks then something will trigger me and I'll start obsessing about symptoms. I appreciate your symptoms are genuine but crucially there is no reason to assume they are going to prove fatal. The only advice I can offer is 1. distraction, go out, visit people think about more pleasant things 2. NEVER GOOGLE ANY SYMPTOMS (this is my golden rule) 3. Don't start checking yourself for symptoms at night cos you'll just end up worrying and getting no sleep 4. Get 'An Introduction to coping with Health anxiety' from amazon this has really helped me. Hope this helps

loopylou6 · 13/06/2008 22:12

Sawyer am only to happy to obey nursey, can i have the bottle though? cant promise to stop at 1-2 glasses Pipsy, Thank you for your lovely post, you really have my sympathy ive, spent time poking round up my nose and obsessing about nose cancer aswell, infact i dont think there has been a cancer that i havent been convinced ive had (cancer is my main fear) Its a really horrible thing HA, and please feel free to email me ([email protected]) (any of you) at any time if your having a rough time/need to chat as i know how completely disabling it can be. Will deffo look that book up, i even have an amazon voucher that ive been wondering how to spend so that solves that problem

Wouldn't want to encourage you to exceed the safe intake but......maybe you need to have an extra "dose(??!!) tonight,as you've had such an anxious day! Drink plenty of water though tonight after,as this will help you avoid a hangover.Cheers!

lucyellensmum · 13/06/2008 22:40

oh loopy! I want to shake you and hug you at the same time. I'm sorry to hear you are still feeling awful. The nurse told you it would not go straight away.It sounds like it is going off - remember the dogs - can take up to a week to stop.

Please go back to your doctor and tell her about all this checking, ive been there (im the tonsil tumour lady!) and its hell. You say you used to have OCD, well its linked, get some help - hypnotherapy??

Please please please stop worrying. I think we have the same name too

lucyellensmum · 13/06/2008 22:41

dont go overboard with the alcohol!! more reason than one - but it will make your anxiety worse
