Concussion - loss of smell/taste

My Dsis has been diagnosed with concussion after banging her head two weeks ago and she has completely lost her sense of smell and taste. It’s getting her down a lot, particularly this time of year with all the lovely food on offer 😢. Has anyone experienced this? How long did it take to return (assuming it has)? She’s worried it might never come back. It seems there is little you can do about it, but if anyone has any suggestions that might help, I’d be really grateful.

I had this once following a head injury, it’s called anosmia. My sense of smell and taste went completely back to normal eventually but I can’t remember how long it took, sorry. Hope it’s the same for your sister.

Yes it’s apparently common. Took my relative over a year and still can’t taste some things. My suggestion is to try some therapies and see if that helps. Otherwise there is no formula and it can take a while.

A friend of mine woke up one morning and her sense of taste and smell had gone. This was 10 years ago and it has never returned.

Crikey that’s horrendous! I guess it’s early days for my dsis and she just needs to be patient. Difficult to know what to suggest though😢

DH has a head injury, a bit more serious as he may need surgery, but hospital have said his current symptoms could take up to six weeks to resolve.
