this is the third hole (tis ok she's 16!)
the first two were fine and so was this one til she changed to cheap earring from Claire's!!!

She's disinfecting it twice a day and now there's a scab, so I think she has no alternative but to let the hole close up.

What do you reckon?

If it was my ear then I would let it close up but I can imagine that at 16 I would have done anything to keep the hole open!

Good luck!

No. Mine used to get infected but they cleared up after the third time. The scab will fall off. Just get her to keep it clean. If she lets it heal then she'll get them pierced again and she'll have this problem again. If she leaves the earing in and cleans around it then it should be fine. Tell her to keep twisting the earring though, I would saturate the ear with disinfectant so it cleans the hole. Salt water works aswell.

thanks gals,

she took the offending "claire's" earring out and left it for a day.

Now of course the infection is starting to scab over and it's difficult to get another (gold) earring in!!

She thought she might put ice on ear and force another earring in but I'm not sure how much to encourage her to do that. I only ever had the conservative two holes done...one in each ear I mean.

she's very disappointed of course!

If she puts it in through the back, this can sometimes help. It's a bit fiddly though. It does work. She really needs to put it in though as it may start to heal over.

I know avenape, but it hurt when she tried and I wasn't sure whether to tell her to force it through regardless!

Is it a prob if it just heals over and then she has another hole done when it's all settled down?

(she was so proud of her three holes! - would like to have more but is very good about only doing it with my permission)

i did my own third holes, have long since let them heal up. it is very difficult to get three earrings which look good together.

since it seems she is keen on these things do warn her not to wear very heavy earrings in first holes, will stretch horribly.

mine are ghastly and nothing to be done about it. i had clock hands dangling from hoops at 16 so no wonder really.

oh dear, fishie.

Yes, I did warn her the other day that she might look one of those jewellery display cushions if she has too many. Whilst trying not to sound like a tedious old mum!
