Tell me about your Oura rings

I’m thinking of purchasing a Oura ring after Christmas. I’ve tried an Apple Watch and a basic Fitbit but I cannot for the life of me wear a watch! And these seem like a great alternative. What I would like to use it for:
tracking steps
tracking calories
tracking sleep
bpm and body temp

I have an Oura ring, and have had an Apple Watch and multiple fitbits in the past.

it’s fantastic at sleep tracking, heart rate, body temp, respiratory rate, blood oxygen etc. period tracking is also incredibly accurate.

it’s not a great activity tracker. I find it overestimates steps throughout the day, and when doing any exercise where I use my hands, like spin classes or weight lifting, it loses my heart rate.

its more of a general health/wellness tracker, and that’s what it excels at.

Do you need to pay for a subscription as well as the ring?

CeeJay26 · 07/12/2025 18:58

Yes, that’s a good point. £5.99 a month.

I forgot to add, it tells me when I’m ill (or starting to get ill) 😁

@CeeJay26oh how does it tell if your getting poorly ?
also did you buy the finger measuring device before you bought your ring?

It gets to know your usual resting heart rate, body temp, respiratory rate etc and when those stats start changing, it can alert you and encourage rest. Does it really add value? Maybe not, generally I find I start feeling unwell by the time it tells me. But I like the validation! 🤣

Yes, the measuring kit is a pack of plastic rings you wear for a day or two to get your best fit. Finger size changes a lot with heat etc throughout the day, so it’s good to keep a test on and see what size you like best.
