Dental implant - infection?

Had an implant placed a week ago. Pain less than expected the first few days and now increased and so has my use of pain drugs. Gum red by nearby teeth too.
dentist said it’s normal ( over the phone). I don’t think it is. Any dentists on here?!

Are they not willing to see you for a check?

I had an implant at the end of June which got infected and fell out within two weeks. My symptoms were like yours - pain gradually getting worse each day and having to take more painkillers, including some cocodamol my husband had from an operation. I would insist on getting the dentist to look at it, although in my case it didn’t help! I went back to have the stitches out after a week and told him the pain was getting worse and my gum felt like jelly and he said it was normal Hmm. A couple of days later, the entire thing came out while I was eating.

@Nomoreanymore9678It was particularly annoying, because it transpired that the dentist had forgotten he didn’t prescribe any antibiotics when he removed the old tooth and put some bone graft in. Might have stopped it happening! Anyway, he cut the infection out and gave me some antibiotics, fast forward to the beginning of November and I had it redone. Virtually no post-operative discomfort this time, I only had two lots of paracetamol in the 48 hours afterwards and then didn’t need anything. Definitely go back if you’re in any doubt, increasing pain isn’t normal - also the pain I had wasn’t just under the implant, it seemed to radiate along the entire side of the jaw, so watch for that.
