Teenager Ankle Pain

DD has a sore ankle. It’s been sore for over a week and seems to be getting worse (we had thought it was ok at the weekend and she did sport). She is also complaining of a really sore back since weekend and I can’t help but think 2 are related.

She says her ankle is getting sorer and it’s really painful walking up stairs at school etc but she can weight bear and I haven’t noticed a limp,

The inner ankle bone maybe has a bit of a bruise under the skin but not really noticeable unless you look closely. It feels a bit bigger than the other side but I’m not really aware of any swelling. It was a bit swollen last week but that seems to have cleared.

she is complaining that it’s affecting her sleep overnight.

Gp suggests ibuprofen and gentle exercises and should be ok in a few days but that was over phone.

just a bit concerned as pain is getting worse for her.

should I do as GP suggests and ride it out or from experience, do you think it could do with an xray ? Would she even be able to weight bear or move it normally if any type of fracture? Tia

Health professional told me I was fine when I complained about leg pain after a fall - I had no bruising and was walking as it did not look bad so thought I should get on with it. Over a week later I saw a GP who sent me straight to AE where I ended up in a cast to my thigh.

Hopefully for your DD it is not anything serious but I now realise that not all fractures cause lots of bruises or massive swelling.
