I think the addatives in Calpol are making my 5 year old bounce off the walls, can I give him half a paracetamol instead?

I'm sure it would be the same dose as two spoons of calpol, without the e420, e218, e216, e214, e122 and maltitol.

ELR · 07/06/2008 15:47

sorry dont know about tablet

pagwatch · 07/06/2008 15:49

what are you gving it for? Is it temp or pain relief.
My DS can't tolerate calpol so I use cooling flannels and a fan when he has a temperature.

SmugColditz · 07/06/2008 16:10

it's for pain relief, he has a headache.

Does prescription paracetamol come in a sweet suspension then?

Colditz - I always used soluble paracetamol for mine (Panadol) once they got to 6. Tis cheaper and the grown-ups can have it as well. They're very big and easy to break in half before dissolving so you could give 250mg or even 125mg (ish).

misdee · 07/06/2008 16:11

we use medinol.

still has sugar and sweetners in but no nasty colours.

SmugColditz · 07/06/2008 16:13

I looked at the panadol and medinol, but it says 6+ and he's only just 5.

Friendlypizzaeater · 07/06/2008 21:27

Co-ops own brand is supposed to be additive /E free ? Not seen it but remember reading it somewhere ....

My H (a doc) says the paracetamol dose for a child is 15mg per kg of weight every 6 hours.

So if he weighs 15kg his dose is 225g, which is almost half a paracetamol.

Thing is, will he swallow it?!
