which drug is it?
the yellow banana-flavoured amoxycillin? That has some pretty nasty E numbers in that can send some children hyper, as well as sweeteners.

Read the ingredients on the side of the bottle - what's in it? (you might need to peel back the label)

Perhaps phone the pharmacy/chemist and ask if there is any other way they can make it up,and explain the reaction your DD is having. Maybe there is an alternative.....?

trace2 · 07/06/2008 14:01

It may just be an initial reaction(hopefully)
I don't think theres any "danger" with her having it,as shes not "allergic" to it,just very sensitive to the ingredients of the syrup.Hopefully her body will have got used to it now,if not and she is just as hyperactive and affected by it,either try phoning NHSDirect for some advice,or your out-of-hours service,or maybe your nearest Tesco etc. that may have a pharmacy.

thank you ill let her sleep it off and see how she goes with it

I'm afraid the good the drug is doing her chest is more important than the side effects . Don't stop giving it.

next time tell the GP and ask for something different

I am not quite allergic to penicillin but react to it so I have to have erythromycin (sp???) which is a non penecillin based antibiotic, could you ask the GP to prescribe this as an alternative?

trace2 · 08/06/2008 11:10

shes ok with it now shes back to her old self so yes i have carried on giving it her , but i will tell gp for next time, i am allergic to it its closeers my airways
