Ds (13 months) and I were out with a friend and her daughter 14 days ago, the next day she text to say that her daughter had chicken pox.

Ds has been under the weather for the past week but we have been away/he's teething/just grumpy, was wondering when it is same to asume that he hasnt caught it?

I think 21 or 22 days is the max incubation period. DD is on day 5 of CP, have had a horrible week...

SpacePuppy · 06/06/2008 16:25

about 3 weeks

cmotdibbler · 06/06/2008 16:28

It normally takes about 2 weeks to develop it.
DS got it last Thursday, but thankfully only very mildly

Dd1 was exposed before her nursery finished for the Xmas break on 16 December.

She fell ill on 9 Jan.

Bollocks - thought we were in the clear

dd1 had it couple of weeks ago, dd2 still no sign of it at 19 days past dd1's first spot. I'm wondering, given the 21 days incubation period, whether we're clear in 2 days' time or whether in fact its 21 days from the last day of dd1's un-scabbed spottiness....

Can't believe dd2 won't get it, given the contact they had! Would be quite happy if she didnt', though, till next year.

anotherRaspberry · 06/06/2008 17:11

I think it's up to about 3 weeks.

geordieminx · 06/06/2008 17:12

TBH we went to the soft play but they didnt really have any "contact" so to speak?

I know that he could stil get it, and thatI'm just clutching at straws

geordie, if its any reassurane, my dd had v close contact earlier in the year with my niece who had the pox; i was sure she's catch it, they'd been sharing cups, spoons, toys, kisses etc, but she didn't. so there's a straw to clutch at!! good luck!

Seona1973 · 06/06/2008 20:05

the incubation period is 10-21 days and they are contagious for 1-2 days before the spots appear and until they crust over. I would start looking out for the spots appearing tbh. (My ds got them roughly 14/15 days after dd had them)

DD#2 developed her spots 21 days after dd#1 had hers. Sorry not in the clear yet. Hope it all goes well though and at least if he does get it he is pretty unlikely to have to go through it again.
