callum has been off colour for a while now, but since the early hours of the morning he has had a temp of 39.4. I have been dosing him up with calpol.

Came back from school run and Dh said he was really hot but had freezing feet, alarm bells rang, and I looked on the nhsdirect site and it said if your baby has freezing hands or feet but with a fever to dial 999. I checked his temp again and it was 39.7. Phone for an ambulance straight away. Got to hospital where we were taken straight in and they checked for a rash. They kept an eye on his temp, and it dropped to 37.8 but then went back to 38.2 so was given Nuropen (sp?) which took it back to 37.4.

We have been sent home now and they think he has Gastroenteritis, but he hasn't been sick at all, he has had loose stools for the past 2 days but they are fine now....

i was very scared.....

You are having a tough time at the moment, SGK.
I hope little Callum is better soon.

SparklyGothKat · 05/06/2008 20:45

He is still grumpy, and feels warm, but the doctor said that if his temp shoots up again to take him back

Poor little thing. I took ds to hospital a while ago as he was dripping in sweat and had temp. was told to hang wet t-towels in the room to cool the atmosphere

NotABanana · 05/06/2008 21:01

I am very impressed how calm you sound and that you knew instantly what to do. I am sure I would have freaked out.

Hope the little man is soon better.

SparklyGothKat · 05/06/2008 21:06

I knew that cold feet with a fever is a sign of meninitis (sp) and I know all the signs, i have a little card with it all on it.

NotABanana · 05/06/2008 21:25

I thought I knew all the signs of menigitis but didn't know about cold feet and a fever, so thank you for that.
