Have horrid sore throat in the house.
yesterday I could barely move as I ached so much. temp raised but not a fever 38.5
today temp is 37.9 and throat is horrid, haven't really eaten properly for 48 hours.
drinking lots. (lemon squash or coffee)

do I sit this out? should I seek medical advice... I don't want to waste their time if all they can do is tell me to wait for it to go?

Oh nasty

If paracetamol/ibuprofen don't touch it and if you couldn't drink, I would think about going to the doctors.

Can you see down your throat or get somebody else to have a look? If you can see yellow pus on your tonsils it would be worth a trip to docs for antibiotics.

More likely to be viral and they will tell you to sit it out.

Hope you get better soon.

Def pus on tonsils, can't swallow, ear pain on swallowing

headache.. sore neck...
no puss on tonsils..
guess sitting it out is the option...

thanks ladies

gargling with soluble disprin helps - pharmacist recommended. I went to the doc with sore throat when even drinking water made me cry! I had a throat infection.

Last time I had a really sore throat I waited two days before I saw the doctor and the pain was terrible. If painkillers not touching it I would probably get it checked out.

Mine was tonsilitus (sp) and felt loads better after 2 doses of antibiotics.

Hope you feel better soon.

Second the gargling with soluble asprin, Dr recommended it to me and it really helped.

Depends whats causing it. If it is tonsilitis it could be days. If it is a cold or flu sympton it might be alright tomorrow.

Are you bf? I was just thinking back to the last time I had such a bad sore throat DS1 was only 4mths old and I was still bf. I asked the chemist if there was anything I could take - there wasn't cos of the bf but there were all sorts of sprays that you can spray down your throat to kill the pain. If you can get out, I would go and ask a chemist or send somebody else to ask if possible.
