I am on antibiotics following a heavy cold which left me with laryngitis and a chest infection. It is day 4 of my 7 day course and I have suddenyl got very painful sinusitis. i thought that the antibiotics (amoxycilin) would have prevented new infection? does that mean they are not working?
and while i'm here, what is the best painkiller to take for sinusitis; i fell like my head is going to fall off!

well not all bacteria are affected by all abs

and also abs can kill good bacteria and lower immunity so a different infection can develop

and some illnesses are viruses which are not affected by abs

ah,ok. maybe i should take some acidophillus to counter act then, or would this mess up the ABs? I'd hoped i was on the mend!
thanks zippi!

oooh pooor you. the sinusitus may be a result of the original infection anyway, or a secondary.

Try the head over a bowl of steaming water with a couple or six drops of karvol or olbas oil, towel over head. Then blow your nose like this: Block one nostril and blow the other one, just hold the tissue under the nose and dont obstruct the free nostril, I garuntee you will have all manner of snot fall into the tissue, its proper gross - but your head will feel better for it.

Sudofed is best, i think for sinisitus, you can get sudofed + with paracetemol in it too. Dont take with lemsip though as it is the same active ingredient.

Um, can you tell ive just got over sinusitis??

olivo · 06/06/2008 08:01

Thanks LEM. have just tried your nose blowing technique - gross!
can only do the plain steaming cos of my asthma at the moment, but will try it later.
i'm off the the pharmacy later to see what i can get.
hope you're feeling better now.
