Colonoscopy prep tomorrow - timing advice please

OK so my scope is on monday afternoon, probably around 1.00 or 2.00 and I have to start on my first delicious beverage at 6pm tomorrow. But just wondering how long it takes for it to have an effect. Will I be ok to go to bed at 9.30 or will I still be going to the loo?? I'm wondering if I might start it a bit earlier so that I can safely get a good nights sleep.

Please share your experiences!

I'm a colonoscopy veteran (think I've had five now) and I always start the prep two hours before the letter says to. Even doing that, I had to do a very undignified sprint from the car to the loo as we arrived at the hospital last time. I hope it goes well for you tomorrow. The prep is the worst bit.

Thank you. Yes the prep is revolting. I have a peppermint in my mouth as I force it down. Worst breakfast ever!

It's probably dehydration making you cold. Did you manage to get any sleep?

Dehydration and no food makes my blood pressure drop which makes me cold.

Yes, amazingly I slept through. But up early for part 2 of the prep which was a lot better than part 1. It worked quickly and no cramps. But i felt so worn out.

I was in a fever at the hospital waiting to be called in for the scope. The sedation was less than I expected, just a little bit of relaxation when I was expecting to be out of it. But it was fine in the end, I watched the whole thing. Had a large polyp on a stalk so they whipped that out and it's off for biopsy so hopefully that twill come back ok.

Thanks everyone for all the advice and kind words.

Well done OP. I was bloody freezing too. I wasn’t expecting that and the shivering was horrible.
