Back pain from holiday mattress

We’re on holiday at the moment and my DH has developed awful lower back pain from the mattress. I’m finding it uncomfortable too, neither of us are getting a decent sleep. I’m guessing it’s too soft, it’s also like being on a boat when either of us moves in the night.

Any suggestions for easing the back pain or adjusting the mattress so he’s not crippled by the time we go home? It’s an overnight 8hr flight so we’re both dreading it as his back went the last time we were here and he could hardly walk getting off the plane. Thanks in advance.

Physio here! Try sleeping on your side, knees slightly bent with a pillow in between your legs. Swimming and gentle yoga exercises should also be beneficial

Is there room to put the mattress on the floor? That might make it a bit firmer.

Thanks @Cappuccino5that’s a good shout. I had also suggested some cat/cows might help.

@BIWI no room I’m afraid, it’s a giant American bed. I think there’s also a mattress topper on it which isn’t helping at all 😩
