So on Saturday I went for a Japanese head spa, I’ve had this done before and was fine but the lady I went to last time was fully booked and I wanted to book in quite quickly because I find this helps with stress relief plus I’ve been suffering with a lot of dry skin on my scalp.
i went to this new lady who was offering this service, I had to fill out a form where I stated I had sensitive skin & dry skin ( I asked the lady I went to last time if this treatment was suitable for sensitive skin and she said yes all the products were natural and I was absolutely fine!) so I filled in the form and the lady explained to me that she’s “ very transparent” and that whilst these products are natural they could cause allergic reactions which I understand as natural oils can cause reactions.
I did tell her though I had sensitive skin and she told me if I suffered an allergic reaction to take an antihistamine or if severe to seek medical attention which I found a bit weird as I’ve had this treatment done before and nothing like this was discussed with me.
she did mention I had some very dry patches which looks like dermatitis and that she would be using a tea tree/ salicylic acid shampoo, mask and conditioner all over to which I agreed, I did notice during the treatment that these products had a VERY strong smell. After the treatment was complete the lady seemed to be very nervous and kept saying “ I’m nervous because your hair line is slightly red and I’m worried it may be a reaction” I told her my skin goes red easily but she again said take an antihistamine if it doesn’t ease down.
i was generally fine after the treatment but noticed a couple of hours later my hair and scalp was really itchy, I also had my 3rds ear piercing 9 weeks ago which have been fine and healed but ever since the treatment they have felt red, hot and tender, they don’t look infected but are very tender.
these last 3 days my ears have remained red and tender and my scalp itchy slightly and tender, I noticed last night I have red pimple like spots in places of my scalp which hurt to touch, today the nape of my neck hairline was itchy again and when itching I noticed I have 2 enlarged lymph nodes which are tender to the touch. I’m starting to worry and the swollen lymph nodes panicked me as I have very bad health anxiety anyway. The lymph nodes are right behind my ear in my hairline and my ear piercing is also still so tender as well as itchy scalp.
does this sound like an allergic reaction to the treatment and any advice what I should do? I hadn’t washed my hair since the treatment as I wash my hair a couple of times a week but I’ve since washed my hair twice after realising to make sure any of the product is off me! I am now just panicking because of the swollen nodes
