does any one have a clue as to a rough timescale for cracked ribs to start feeling less painful. DH cracked them nearly 2wks ago and is still in a lot of pain even with the pain killers. he has to go back to his gp next week but is being a PITA at the moment cos he's really stiff and sore, oh and bored!

It should start subsiding slowly within the next week or so....

What pain killers is he taking? I was combining paracetamol and ibuprofen but was prescribed somethign much stronger (which I didnt take)

DH and GS have had cracked ribs at some point, apparently there isn't much difference in recovery time than having broken ribs. Sorry, but I was told (in both cases) that they can remain very painful for up to 6 weeks before 'quietening' down. and even then DH still had the odd twinge for a cople of months after that.

Movement is important, and deep breaths. My sil has just cracked a rib last week and she's just re-activated the pain by trampolining with her nieces.

She's taking Cosmopolitan cocktails as her pain relief of choice.

6 weeks all should be fine BUT if your DH's still in pain, he should see a physio. and if all cleared by her / him then he'll just have to get on with it - man ribs take longer to heal I think!!

lol at the cosmopolitan! i think i'd have to get him something more "manly"! he's taking co-codamol and dicloflex. i think man ribs might take longer..... the thing is between his ribs and my ass we look ridiculous trying to walk like 2 101yrolds!

joash, ta very much. i shall now go and buy that shovel

I should have added that DH was 39 when he did his and whinged constantly for weeks and weeks and weeks. Whereas GS was 4 when he did his and apart from the occasional comment when he caught himself or was a bit sore, he just said "ow ow ow Still hurts - keep forgetting"
