Can anyone shead any light on a rash my ds of 19 mths has.

It came on yesterday lunch time. Around his eyes and cheeks it looked as though he was sunburnt but had spots in it.

An hour later it was on arms and legs - very small red spots that are bumpy to touch.

It faded by the evening to a blotchy rash.

Today it has come back - nearly all over his body. One of his bum cheeks look as though it has been smacked.

His cheeks are bright red.

He seems okay, though was rather warm to touch for past couple of nights and bit off his food.

slapped cheek syndrome??
my dd aged 6 had this a few weeks back.

it looked as tho she had been sunburnt/heat rash, and it bloody coincided with a trip to the beach and i was convinced I had not applied enough suncream.

i read your post again, it really sounds like it. Its a virus, and comes around every 4 yrs or so. Not contagious when the rash comes out. has your ds been grizzly the past few days, or sore throat type thing?

Hi piratecat,

he has seemed a bit off colour really - am not sure about a sore throat though.

I was really confused when it seemed to go down yesterday pm to find it cam back with a vengence today.

I am just off to google slapped cheek - thank you

i htought after, it is not easy to ask a 19 month old if they have a sore throat. It isn't a main symptom, but it wasone that dd def complained about two days before the rash appeared.

The rash can be on any parts of the body, but is nearly always on the face.

I was so relieved when dd's teacher said to me, 'hey piratecat, smallpiratecat isn't sunburnt, it's slapped cheek'

i also surprised becuase to me it also looked like slapped arms too!!

bless! best to keep him off for his own well being, as he will be feeling under the weather.

Gp consenses is that it is ok for them to go to school/nursery, as they arenot contagious whenthe rash apears. btbh, I kept dd home, and avoided the explanations!!

good luck
