I've got gum disease, had it for many years and I'm under a periodontist and hygienist. I've got an extremely strict cleaning regime which I stick to rigidly and it's served me well. My condition has been stable for many years.
I'm always looking to fellow patients with gum issues & how they cope & it may have been on here or on another forum, but xylitol caught my eye last Dec.
So I decided to give it a go to try & inhibit the bacteria that run riot in your mouth. I bought it in granular form and used it twice a day, every day for the last 8 months. Today was the first time I've seen my hygienist since last Dec (saw a different one in April) she knows my mouth really really well...... She knew nothing about xylitol & in all honesty apart from one tooth she said was better, I've gained a pocket in another tooth that was previously fine. So begins an extra cleaning regime for that.
There was no "wow, your mouth is so much better" I'm disappointed, but I'm guessing I fell for the "this is the most amazing product ever, you must try it."
Never changed my cleaning regime while using it, but that's it , won't be using it again. And for those who say you should have used gum, I did but it was so expensive and there were additives to it too, so it wasn't pure xylitol while the granulated xylitol was pure.
Anyone else who's used it and succeeded where I failed?
Gum disease is for life and I've come out of my appointment today with even more to do!
