Pain Following Root Canal

I had a root canal done on Monday afternoon, this was a tooth that had a previous root canal performed on it 6 years ago. The dentist stated he managed to do the treatment in one sitting. All fine on Monday, discomfort when the anaesthetic wore off but nothing extreme. However, that was only until my lower teeth touched the affected tooth and caused sharp pain. Since then anytime my teeth meet the pain is intense, it was intermittent at first but I am now in consistent agony. I'm unsure if the filling is too high or it has just been immediate failure.
Since early evening I've been unable to function properly due to the pain. I normally have a high pain threshold but I am struggling with the pain. I managed to fall asleep last night following analgesia and icing the area but have woken with pain again.
Would the dentist likely take it out due to pain? I don't think I could suffer this to do trial and error to see if the canals need cleaning again or to fix the bite.
