How dangerous is low ferritin 15/16 ng/mL

Just had bloods back and been prescribed iron. My question is what happens is these levels are untreated for years?
The reason i’m asking as just looked at my previous year results and my ferritin was the same and Gp sent bloods back as marked normal even though it says number bellow 20 should have iron prescribed.

My ferritin has come back as 5 or under 5 for many years and my GP does not deem it dangerous and neither do I ( I am a health care professional so informed enough to understand the implications). Other people may disagree and say they feel dreadful but as long as you are not anaemic, there is nothing dangerous about it.

Thank you so as long as actual iron levels are normal, it’s considered ok?
im only asking as i’ve spent the last year and a half going to gp complaining about heart palpitations worrying something wrong is my heart and was kept being told everything is fine when i read about low ferritin levels it seems to suggest hart palpitations could be a symptom of low iron and long term can cause issues to heart?
my ferritin levels have been low for years but iron levels are fine however i’ve developed an all over body itch so gp now this decided this low ferritin should give me iron for but now im worrying of the persistent low ferritin has caused me long term damage?!
